With winter in full swing right now, I find it necessary to change up the products I’m using to make up for mother nature sucking all of the moisture out of my skin. Unless you were somehow blessed with skin and hair that moisturizes itself, I’m sure you understand the dryness. So, without further ado, here are the products I use when battling the cold.
1. Coconut Oil. Get it HERE
Coconut oil sounds so trendy right now, but it really makes a difference! You also will smell like amazing macaroons. I use it instead of body lotion. Keep it in your shower and right when you finish showering, apply it generously to your body and pat dry with a towel. It will seem really thick at first but once applied to wet skin, it’ll melt onto you. Two things to note: you want organic virgin coconut oil, and make sure to transfer it from the glass jar into tupperware before storing it in the shower (I learned that the hard way).
2. Clarins Hydraquench Cream with SPF 15. Try it HERE
Using face cream is always important, especially during the day. I like to use something a little thick in the colder months so I switch to this Clarins one. If you are leaving the house during the day, you really need to be wearing something with an SPF in it. Even if it’s dark and gloomy! Those not-so-sweet baby rays can find you through the clouds.
3. Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Youth Generating Cream. Put it on HERE
This cream is great. I tend to try out different products when I run out, but this cream is like a lover you can’t shake. No matter how hard it is on you (in this case, my wallet), you just keep going back to it. It restores hydration, reduces the appearance of lines, and prevents future damage. And it smells like lavender.
4. Fresh Seaberry Face Oil. Find it HERE
Face oil may sound like a recipe for a breakout but it can actually have the opposite effect and add extra hydration. I put a few drops on my fingertips and massage it onto my face. If you’re really dry, you can also pat a few drops on over your lotion to trap in the moisture. I’d suggest doing the second method in the evening so you don’t appear too shiny.
5. Fekkai PrX Reparative Hair Masque. Get it HERE
These goldie locks don’t stay shiny on their own. I am of course a natural blonde. But, if I wasn’t, I would be even more keen on this type of treatment because color-treated hair can get really dried out in the tundra that is Chicago winter. You just leave it in for 10 minutes and your hair feels soft as a baby’s…hair.
6. Rosebud Salve. Pick it up HERE
I am a huge fan of multitasking… mainly because I can’t focus on one thing for very long. I like to take this stuff with me everywhere. If I’m on the go I throw it in my bag and use it instead of lip gloss, on my cuticles, and on my knuckles when they are really dry from the cold.
7. Aquaphor. Get it HERE
Much like the Rosebud Salve, I use this lovely goop multiple places. I keep a big tub of it next to my bed and apply it generously on my lips before bed and right when I wake up. I also use it on spots that need a little extra lovin’ from the weather, like my heels on occasion. This is one of the cheapest products on my list, and probably the one I couldn’t live without.
8. Avene Cold Cream. See it HERE
I discovered this one when I was studying abroad in Paris. I like it because it’s thick but not greasy like a lot of other hand creams out there. And it smells like flowers. And… it reminds me of Paris.
9. Clarisonic Mia 2. Grab HERE
When your face is dry, you need to do more than simply moisturize it. I love the Clarisonic for multiple reasons, especially in the winter. It helps clear up breakouts, gets rid of make up, exfoliates to brighten up your face, and helps your skin absorb the products you apply. And it is so much more enjoyable than washing your face manually
10. Jergen’s Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer. Find it HERE
Okay I know it’s winter, and being pale is inevitable. But I like to put a little of this on under my normal moisturizer on occasion to keep me from looking completely translucent. It’s subtle enough that people will not question whether you have just gotten back from an 8 hour trip to Tahiti. Ladies be warned, do not put this on before hanging out with your man. I don’t think it smells like tanner, but he will be able to smell it.
I love getting your feedback. Did you like any of the products? Any you think should be added to the list? Let me know, and stay warm!
xx
