This past weekend I went to Louisville, Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby. I spent three days in a row at Churchill Downs (photo diary will be up tomorrow) but I wanted to highlight my outfit from the actual derby day. While searching for an outfit for the occasion I wanted to try something different from what I usually wear, which is black or slightly grunge. I decided to go with this bright floral neoprene number. For anyone who is unfamiliar with neoprene, it is basically like a scuba suit. I loved every second of being in this dress. It was bright, comfortable, and I felt like I could do anything in it… like scuba dive or drink endless Mint Juleps. It also elicited so many compliments. My favorite was from a guy waiting outside the women’s restroom who hollered, “Hey, I like your dress. You look like Hawaii!” I wanted the dress be center stage so I paired it with a solid fascinator and some classic espadrille wedges. I felt like Maui Derby Barbie.
Oh, and I’m also pretty sure this dress was good luck because I picked the winning horse that day.
