Everyone tends to overeat during the holidays. Thanksgiving dinner happens to be my favorite meal, so when it comes around, my appetite goes into overdrive. No, seriously, I could probably beat the Black Widow in an eating competition (my family will have no problem backing me up on that). I try not to let this gigantic dinner and all the desserts that come with it send me over the edge into the junk food abyss, so here are three things I like to use as a post Thanksgiving detox to get my Black Friday started in the right direction.
1. Detox Water
You can make many different versions of this, but here is one that I love:
- 1/2 gallon of water
- 6 wedges grapefruit
- 1 tangerine (or orange), sliced
- ½ cucumber, sliced
- 2 peppermint or mint leaves
- Ice
Directions:
Rinse the grapefruit, orange, cucumber and mint leaves. Slice the cucumber, grapefruit, and tangerine (or orange). Combine all of the ingredients in a half gallon pitcher. Let the water sit for 2 hours for maximum before drinking.
2. Detox Smoothie
- 1 apple cored and peeled
- 1 cup kale
- 1/3 cup flat leaf parsley
- 1 stalk of celery
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 1/4 cups cold water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
Combine ingredients, blend until smooth, and serve over ice.
3. Good old fashioned hot yoga.
Hot yoga allows you to get a good sweat and rid your body of excess water weight. It will also help you get re-centered before your weekend.
You look better after just reading this!
