I took a short hiatus from blogging while I was away, but I am back and do not plan on breaking again. So. Happy New Year!! This year is sure to be an exciting one. I am in the process of choosing where I will live next, and planning my professional future. In creating this post, I am sharing my experiences not to go on and on about myself but to let anyone reading this see that no matter how cute someone’s life may look through outfit posts and instagram, there is still real life going on behind the lens. If I can help just ONE person feel a little bit uplifted or inspired, then I have accomplished something.
I sat down today intent on writing about how great this year would be and what I hope to accomplish, but how can you take a bold stance on what the new you will be like if you haven’t taken time to reflect on last year? Now I don’t mean dwelling. Never dwell on the past, but rather take what you can and use it to push you into a better place for the future. My technical resolutions for this year are to learn how to sew and learn to play at least one song on an instrument. I would add “get a 6 pack” and “drink less” in there but… But those sound so basic. And real women have curves? In all seriousness I really want to take the lessons I have learned and use them to help me grow.
What I learned… 2014 was a huge year of growth for me. Here are some key points I took from it.
1. I had a lot of growing up to do.
2. Live in the moment but don’t be reckless in considering how things that make you feel good right this second are going to make you feel tomorrow. This one doesn’t have to be so deep… it can simply be applied to eating a whole pizza late at night.
3. Just because you want something, doesn’t always mean it can work. This is a very hard one to accept. And, quite frankly, heartbreaking… BUT at the same time, just because something didn’t work initially does not mean it can’t in the future.
4. Timing is EVERYTHING
5. I should stop listening to others’ opinions so often.
6. Don’t put yourself on a timeline and don’t get overwhelmed by the end goal. Just like the past, don’t dwell on the future. Just keep moving forward.
7. Hoarding is a bad idea
8. Living alone can be a good thing
9. Buying unnecessary things is unnecessary
10. This is the biggest one… stop gravitating towards things that don’t make you feel good.
SO taking all of these lessons into the future, here is how I plan to use them. Rather than “making resolutions,” I prefer to call this “setting my intentions.”
1. I will get rid of excess matter (clothes, jewelry, ticket stubs)
2. I will take the opinions of loved ones into consideration but not let them guide my decisions. It is ultimately MY life.
3. I will stop procrastinating and stop wasting time
4. I will only allow someone’s name to come into conversation only if the topic is pleasant.
5. I will let things go.
6. I will listen more speak less…. and learn how to communicate better.
7. I will work harder while making more time for creative outlets
8. I will remain impulsive but take care in thinking things through.
9. I will appreciate people more.
10. I will gravitate only towards vibrations that make me feel GOOD. In doing this, good things will continue to come my way.
If you can relate, please comment/share! And here’s to a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2015.
xx
