Wearing: Equipment Sweater // Hudson Jeans (similar HERE) // Lucky Brand Booties
I hear a lot of my friends talk about shopping and their closets and they always mention “basics.” I have disliked the word basic since before the term “basic bitch” came along. Now I really detest it.
It seems that people buy these standard pieces because they can be worn so many different ways and mixed and matched and worn with everything. They shy away from more novelty items because they’re “only going to be able to wear them once or twice.” No. Fun pieces are the foundation of my wardrobe and they don’t have to be paired with these (ugh) “basics.” What could possibly be more fun than pairing something fun with something fun??
Nothing in this outfit is plain but I think they go together swimmingly. So if you want to put together several bold items, here is a good rule of thumb: begin with one common feature in each piece so that you don’t risk major clashing. In the outfit above the commonality is black accents… The black X’s on the sweater, black netting in the jeans, and black quilting on the booties. Now you try.
