This post comes a bit late, but getting shots from the event was worth the wait. On Valentine’s Day I attended the closing reception of Streetscapes by Rad Roubeni at the Public Display popup gallery on the LES. Rad is a visual artist whose current work consists of photographs of incredible street art around the world. This particular show featured all work from NYC. I had met Rad the night before after a fashion show (it was NYFW) and intrigued by his invitation and my love for street art, I decided to check it out.
True to its date, the event was based around a Valentine’s Day vibe. The Matchbook, a matchmaking service, promoted it to clients as a great networking event for those who were stag that evening. Roubeni also teamed up with Hash Halper a.k.a. New York Romantics (known for chalking the streets with hearts and the word “love”) who performed live art. The best part? Attendees were encouraged to join in on the positive art movement. Pieces of sidewalk chalk were scattered on the floor throughout the space to be used all over the white walls of the gallery. My friend and I approached timidly at first and 20 minutes later emerged from the floor sublimely happy and covered in a colorful dusting of chalk. I’d say the event did what it had intended to do… inspire and conjure up great energy.
