Chambray is one of those words that tends to leave you men with a blank look on your faces. It is what you would refer to as a denim shirt. While denim and chambray look similar, they are a different fabric, made with a different process. Most of the button downs you see out there are actually chambray. But, the word use and manufacturing are not what is important here.
Guys often turn their nose up at these shirts because they are a bit uncomfortable with the concept since they don’t know how to wear them. This is the type of top any man can wear and going into spring and summer you will learn to love the look once you know how to pair it.
Now the number one rule is that the shirt cannot be the same shade as the pants. I personally like to pair it with jeans that are several shades darker. If the Chambray is very dark you can pair it with jeans that are lighter, but for my guys I like to pair a dark blue shirt with colored pants. They can be colored jeans or even chinos. Here are three shades of chambray shirts with several suggestions on how to pair them:

So how about when it is still sweater weather? No worries. Chambray shirts look great with a sweater layered over, or even a light down vest. And when it is hot out? Throw on your chambray shirt with a pair of shorts and flip flops, boat shoes, loafers, or even cool sneakers.
